ABC Laboratories has undertaken a review of the reference range for Potassium to determine if there is a community based difference in the being population served.
99,145 potassium results that were between our critical values of 3.0 and 6.0 were evaluated to establish a reference interval by 3 different methods, Nonparametric, Transformed Parametric, and Parametric. The mean and median value was 4.4, and the results of the evaluation indicated our population distribution for a reference range was 3.5 to 5.4 mmol/L.
We have revised our reference range from 3.5 – 5.1 mmol/L to 3.5 – 5.4 mmol/L based upon our population being served.
